About Me

I am a first time mom of a beautiful little boy. Now that I feel like I have gotten my feet back on the ground, I realize that I finally have my body back after pregnancy and three years of fertility treatments. Now I need to get healthy for me and my family. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia during my son's pregnancy and had my son at 34 weeks. I am trying to take control of some of the factors that lead to preeclampsia in order to prevent it in future pregnancy. I also want to live a healthier life style and raise my children to do the same. My goal is to lose 50lbs in ten months. I have decided to set up a blog in order to hold myself accountable. Wish me luck!

Week 1

Weight: 196.6lbs
BMI: 30.5

So I just got on the scale....ugh! For a girl who used to be stick thin weighing 135lbs for most of my life, that number hurts. However, what is even more frustrating is feeling so tired, sluggish, and out of shape. That is motivation enough to make a change. Not to mention, looking at this adorable little boy swinging away. I want to be healthy for him so that I can keep up with him as he plays and explores. I want to instill healthy habits in his life so that they come like second nature instead of something that he has to work at. I want to be the active family that my husband and I used to be before adulthood and responsibility took over and we found ourselves exhausted, wasting away in front of the TV after work.

My son's birth was a wake up call. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia at 32 weeks and delivered him early at 34 weeks. I know that there are many factors that led to the diagnosis that I cannot prevent, but there are a few that I can. I can lose weight and lower my BMI and begin eating healthier. Since it was a long journey through various fertility treatments that led to our son's birth, we are hoping to get pregnant with our second child sooner than later. Therefore, my goal is to get my BMI in the healthy range over the next ten months. I will have to learn how to balance motherhood, family, work, and exercise over the next few months. It should be an interesting adventure.

Exercise
So here we are in the first week of my journey....my goal is to wake up every morning and use the elliptical. This will mean working out after Colby's 5 or 6am feeding so that I am done and showered before my husband leaves for work. I am currenty working out on a flat terrain for twenty minutes and doing crunches on a ball with an eight pound weight. A week from today, I am hoping to have worked my way up to 30 minutes with upper and lower ab exercises interspersed. I would also like to start walking for at least a half hour with my son and dogs every day.

Nutrition
I want to increase my water intake. Right now, I am only drinking a Nalgene bottle a day. I would like to increase it to at least two Nalgene bottles a day. I also need to make a conscious effort to eat more veggies and fruit every day since there are days that I don't think I eat any until dinner time:(
